Sigh. I love Stars. LOVE. STARS. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. (Have I mentioned I love them?) Love. Anyhoo, this song - Your Ex-Lover is Dead - is one of my faves, and here’s a live version from Austin City Limits.

Sneak preview of Okkervil River’s upcoming release The Stand In’s - ‘Calling and Not Calling My Ex’ is yet another example of Will Scheff’s lyrics that make me adore him even more.

Brief Haitus...hold please.

Dear Daily Tuneagers,

It’s been pretty crazy here in DailyTuneageland…first, I was in Beijing for the Olympics, and know what you can’t do in China? (Besides, you know, get anything but government-approved news?) Post to tumblr. (Or at least not on the networks I was on.) Suxors, yo. Now I’m prepping for the DNC and the RNC so methinks Daily Tuneage is going to take a brief hiatus while we recharge our musical batteries. We will return in September with even awesomer music, even more epic riffs and, um, notes? Yeah. I’m not a music writer, just a big, huge, fan who knows what she likes but can’t describe it. So hold tight, thanks for your patience, and when I get a sec, I may post a song or two just to tide ya over.

Thanks, pals. Musical tastiness shall soon return…

I can’t believe I’m going to miss them in concert. In the meantime, listen for the lyrics “I can only trust as much as you deceive.” Stars - “Midnight Coward.”

“I still know you.
And I still like you, the best man.

I still owe you.”

I credit my friend Ryan for first introducing me to this song - I read the lyrics first, and was enchanted. For some reason Sufjan Stevens’ “Size Too Small” has been running through my head all evening, and haven’t yet decided if this means anything. (Knowing me, it does.)

What if everything’s just what it seems
It’s just yourself that you can’t seem
To figure out now for a while

You, you don’t wanna come near
You would say nothing’s here
You could stay until it’s right
Stay until it’s right

‘Song for Gypsy Rose Lee’ is of the slower nature, but catchy and - dare I overuse this word more than I already do? - awesome. Yay, The Coast. I heart you big time.

The Hold Steady always has the best lyrics. This track - Magazines - has some particularly fabulous ones, including:

“Magazines and Daddy issues,
I know you’re pretty pissed, I hope you still let me kiss you.”

I’m also a little partial to:

“One more calls while the other texts;
She’s got boys on board and boys on deck.”

But that’s just because I love softball. (And boys on board and boys on deck, natch.)

I love when lyrics find their way to you when you need them most. The line “I got it, you’ve got somewhere else to be” resonates with me right now, and echoes my sentiments about letting go and letting things happen the way they should. From the new Broken Social Scene Presents: Brendan Canning, ‘Take Care, Look Up’ has been on heavy rotation lately.

Might be the first, but certaintly won’t be the last, song I post from The Coast. “The Moon Is Dead” is catchy in that way I feel like I’ve already had it on a mix (even though I haven’t.) The entire album has been on near-constant rotation for the last few days, and I don’t see this stopping any time soon.
